The problem
UK marketplace commission commonly runs between 25% and 30% when the platform provides the delivery, and around 14% when you deliver yourself. VAT is charged on the commission on top of that.
On a £20 order at 30%, that is £6 before VAT, taken from a margin that was already thin. On a customer who would have ordered from you anyway, it buys nothing.
Figures are typical published ranges and vary by platform, plan and location. We will work through your actual statements with you rather than quoting averages.
| Channel | Taken per order |
|---|---|
| Marketplace, their couriers | 25–30% plus VAT |
| Marketplace, your drivers | around 14% plus VAT |
| Your own direct channel | card processing only, around 2% |
What changes
You know who ordered, what they ordered and when. On a marketplace, that relationship belongs to the platform.
Your prices are your prices. No inflating the menu to absorb a commission you never agreed to.
Nothing here stops you using the apps. Keep them for discovery and move the regulars across.
Orders arrive written down and priced, rather than shouted across a counter at seven on a Friday.
Being fair about it

Send us a month of marketplace statements and we’ll show you what moving a third of those orders across would be worth.
